Application Questions

Code of Conduct

At Ellerslie, we aim to create an atmosphere of focus and spiritual intentionality. We are all about the Gospel and Kingdom of Jesus Christ. It is our desire to maintain our campus as a place of honor in order to make it a place where Jesus can be our singular focus. Thank you in advance for helping us cultivate this Christ-centered culture.

Please read through and check the box below if you are in agreement with the code of conduct and helping us maintain a Christ-centered environment. We will send you the code of conduct again before you arrive on campus (it will be available in your online orientation, sent approximately one month before the start of the program)

1. We decrease so Christ may increase
Christ is to be preeminent in all we do, think, and say (Colossians 1:18). Our desire is not to draw attention to ourselves but rather to Jesus. In all of our interactions, conversations, and even private times, let us seek to not only put Christ first, but purposefully choose to decrease so that He might increase (John 3:30).

2. Scripture is our foundation, authority, and standard
We desire to be a body in which the sixty-six inspired and inerrant books of the Bible are treated as wholly true and without flaw, and are authoritative in all matters pertaining to our life, interactions, and activities. As such, we desire to submit ourselves to the Word and be a “Berean” (Acts 17:11)—eagerly receiving the Word and examining what is taught with God’s Word.

3. Marked by love and humility
As Christians, we are to be known for our love for one another (John 13:35). At Ellerslie, we seek to interact, communicate, and live in such a way that is marked by love and humility (see Mark 12:30-31, 1 Corinthians 13:1-13, Philippians 2:3-4, and 1 Peter 5:5-6). This love is not selfish nor asks “what can I get” but rather is outward focused, seeks to serve, take the lowest place, and esteems others better than ourselves.

4. The serious business of heaven
Joy has been called “the serious business of heaven.” While we take the Bible, the Gospel, and our training seriously, we love to smile, laugh, and exhibit the joy of the Lord (Psalm 16:11 and Nehemiah 8:10).

5. A campus that reflects Christ
We desire for the Ellerslie campus to be a place of peace, joy, hospitality, and Christ-centered focus for all who visit. Please help us keep the campus tidy, be hospitable to visitors, and cultivate an environment that is above reproach (e.g., Titus 1:6-8, Ephesians 5:3, 1 Peter 4:9) and free of alcohol and drug use.

6. Home sweet dorm
Our dorms are “home” during your semester (if you stay on-campus). Please be considerate of others, especially roommates, by keeping rooms clean, be aware of noise levels, and help us keep dorm quiet hours (9:30pm–7:00am). Dorms lock at 10:00pm and unlock at 5:00am—so we ask you show love to those who lock up (see #3) and are in your dorms and checked-in by 9:45pm and in your rooms by 10:00pm so that everyone is able to get adequate rest during the training. Men are not allowed in the ladies’ dormitories and ladies are not allowed in the men’s dormitories—including hallways and common areas, unless approved by a staff member to assist with practical needs.

7. An Honorable Dress Code
Our goal with regard to dress code is simple: to honor Jesus and others in the way we dress, and remove any potential distractions. During chapel sessions it is our desire to create a focused training environment, so we aim for nice-casual attire; guys typically wear jeans, casual pants, etc. with polo shirts or nicer t-shirts (they do not need to be tucked in). Ladies normally wear casual jeans, capris, or skirts with casual tops or nicer t-shirts. Nicer hoodies are also fine for sessions if you desire. During free time on campus you are welcome to wear hats and athletic clothing such as sweats, workout shorts, etc. To show respect for others and remove potential stumbling blocks, we ask that you avoid any immodest or potentially distracting clothing. Further specifics about the dress code will be included in the online orientation (sent approximately one month before the program) to help you know what to bring.

8. God-glorifying relationships
Your time at Ellerslie is a set apart season to seek Jesus Christ. To that end, we ask that during the on-campus portion of your training, you restrain from pursuing any new romantic relationship with a fellow student or with others off-campus. If you are in an existing relationship we ask that you be mindful about keeping your relationship with Christ the central focus during the training and limit your communication throughout the week in order to maintain a focused pursuit of Christ (please see our suggestion in the appendix). To maintain an honorable and Christ-centered environment, we ask that you avoid flirtatious/inappropriate interactions with other students. For further details on this please see below:

  • If you are in an existing relationship (with someone off-campus), we ask that you to be purposeful about keeping your relationship with Christ the central focus during the training and limit your communication throughout the week in order to maintain a focused pursuit of Christ. We have found that students who intentionally “pause” their relationship, or greatly limit their interaction, have been better able to focus, thrive, and use their short time at Ellerslie to fully pursue Jesus Christ—in short, by focusing on spiritual growth and their relationship with Jesus Christ, they return to their relationships in a healthier, stronger, and Christ-honoring way

  • If you are in an existing relationship with a fellow student, please inform the staff of this relationship prior to the program so we can be aware. We ask that you both be mindful about keeping your relationship with Christ the central focus during the training and not causing a distraction to others. We strongly encourage you to consider “pausing” the relationship (or greatly limiting interaction) for the short season you are at Ellerslie so you both may fully focus on Jesus Christ and your spiritual growth. We have found that students who do so cause less distraction to other students and are better able to focus, thrive, and return to their relationships in a healthier, stronger, and Christ-honoring way.

  • Married Couples—Please enjoy being married while setting an example of the purity and sacredness of the marriage covenant.

  • GUY/GIRL FRIENDSHIPS – In order to show a high level of decorum in our midst, we ask that there be no one-on-one pairing off with the opposite sex, either publicly or privately (unless you are siblings or are married). This includes car rides, activities on campus grounds (i.e., walks, meals, etc.), and all off-campus outings. Please avoid flirtatious physical contact with the opposite sex (i.e., front-hugging, piggyback rides, tickling, wrestling, etc.).

9. Technology & Media
To help you fully focus on the training and to create a sacred environment, we ask that you do not use phones or devices during sessions (with the exception of staff and any parent who needs to be “on call”—please keep phones on silent or vibrate and take any calls outside). During free time, you are welcome to use phones and other devices, we simply ask that you be respectful of those around you as you do so, as well as purposeful about not allowing excess screen time to distract you from this set apart season to focus on Jesus. Please do not use your devices (even during free time) for movies, tv shows, gaming, excessive social media, etc.—as this can quickly pull your focus away from spiritual growth and potentially distract fellow students. Additional guidance on screen time during your training will be given in the online orientation (sent approximately one month before the program).

10. Appeal Process
We understand that there are times when exceptions need to be made, and we kindly ask that you make an appeal to the proper staff member for permission or if a question arises. Code of conduct

*I agree to helping Ellerslie maintain the Code of Conduct during my time on campus.

REFUND POLICY FOR CANCELATION OF ADMISSION PRIOR TO ARRIVAL

  • If the cancellation is between 60-89 days prior to the scheduled arrival (start of the semester) – we will refund you any tuition paid minus $250 (the non-refundable deposit of $150 and a cancellation fee of $100)

  • If the cancellation is between 30-59 days prior to the scheduled arrival (start of the semester) – we will refund you any tuition paid minus $450 (the non-refundable deposit of $150 and a cancellation fee of $300)

  • If the cancellation is between 15-29 days prior to the scheduled arrival (start of the semester) – we will refund you any tuition paid minus $650 (the non-refundable deposit of $150 and a cancellation fee of $500)

  • If the cancellation is 14 days or less prior to the scheduled arrival (start of the semester) – there is no refund for any tuition paid

Note: we are happy to change the semester or program you registered for and apply any tuition paid to a future semester/program. Any such changes must be made by email ([email protected]) at least 14 days prior to the scheduled arrival (start of the semester).

Any refunds given may be subject to disbursement in 2-4 payments, depending on Ellerslie's cash flow at the time.

If your reason for cancellation is due to an extreme life circumstance (severe illness, death in the family, etc), please let us know and we will do what we can to work with you.
